Marble Falls tennis starts community league
The Marble Falls Independent School District tennis program invites the community to join the triple tennis league.
It’s on Mondays, beginning Sept. 23, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Charlie and Nancy Herrington Tennis Center on the high school campus.
It’s for people ages 9 and older.
Head coach Samuel Whitley introduced triple tennis during the open courts sessions last summer.
“You don’t have to have a tremendous amount of skill,” he said. “It’s fast paced. You play games of seven to 10 minutes and you take a little break.”
Triple tennis was quite popular during the summer with a line of people waiting to get on the court.
According to web sites, triple tennis or triples accommodates at least six players on each court because it’s a version of 3 on 3. One player is at the net and two are at the baseline. After each point, the players rotate by sprinting to their next spot. People say it’s great for cardio.
“We use a different type of ball,” Whitley said. “It doesn’t quite move as fast. There are two bounces instead of one. It slows the game down a little bit.”
Interested players can show up at 5:30 p.m. with their equipment and water bottles ready to play.
